My problem is a bit silly. Sometimes I cannot read the word I am to type in because the black line obliterates a letter or two so I can’t figure out what the word is. I usually just start over and hope that I can get 2 words I can read.

The Recaptcha/PAIRS disfunction reveals a typical American way of thinking: “control, control, control.”

Law & Order comes first and sense come later.

There are hours that the PAIRS access is blocked due to this stupid annoying security mechanism and yet this totally unfriendly Recaptcha algorithm is still on.

At least now everyone knows something about the level of Carnegie Mellon University.

When I called the PTO today about a Public Pair problem they told me to set my IE security level to “accept all cookies”.

I use IE 7 and also have resorted to Private PAIR, all the time. I have yet to get the reCaptcha feature on Public PAIR to work for me.

I’ve never had that problem with Private PAIR, but it happens in Public PAIR more than half the time. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes if you resize the browser window and hit “reload” you can get the page to display (it sometimes takes two or three tries, though).

Lately I’ve had the reCaptcha screen pop up even after I’ve gotten into Public PAIR, and then it just keeps coming up over and over without ever accepting any input. Private PAIR is the only solution at that point.

I often have problems in private PAIR in Firefox 2.0 (or IE6). After entering in an application number and hitting enter, the next page often comes up blank (instead of the table showing the application data).

I talked to the help center about this and they acknowledged that it is a problem and that the solution is to restart the browser (which is doubling annoying as it requires logging into private PAIR again). Has anyone else found a better workaround?

I have had the same issue with both IE7 and Firefox 2.0. Private PAIR is the only solution I have yet discovered. Perhaps this issue is an intentional way to route most practitioners through Private PAIR?

I am able to use Public PAIR with FireFox by opening Public PAIR in an IE Tab.

I have not had any problems with Public PAIR and IE6.

I’ve had similar problems…and now use the private side MOST of the time.

Maybe the Office doesn’t mind the increased load so much, though…at least with private PAIR, a theoretical maximum can be planned for. On the public side…who knows how high the load could run….

I have the same issue with IE 6.0 running on XP. When I emailed the “technical problems” address listed below the Recaptcha block, I got an email back saying I had to call the phone number; help would not be provided over email.
