Injunction Issues! USPTO Rule Changes Put On Hold

October 31, 2007 on 9:46 am | In Legislation/Regulation, USPTO | Comments Off

Christmas in October!  PLI Patent Blog reporting “Glaxo Wins!  Injunction Issues!” and that the USPTO continuation/claims rule changes (some of which would have kicked in tomorrow) have been put on hold.

Makes you wonder how many RCEs were filed in the past few days needlessly (wasting fees and adding to backlog).

[update: Via a post on Oklahoma patent blog PHOSITA, a copy of the court’s order [click here for the pdf]].

Tech Tip of the Day — Archive.org and FireFox Extension

Many of us use www.archive.org’s “Internet Archive Wayback Machine” for competitive analysis (e.g., researching when an alleged infringer created the infringing web page in question).

Did you know there is a FireFox extension that allows you to right click and select “Find archived page,” thereby being sent to archive.org’s list of cached copies of the current page you are viewing?  See the FireFox extension:  404 : Page is Not Found ? Now it will be!

freePat is back…free international PDF patent copies

October 12, 2007 on 8:20 am | In Patent Searching | Comments Off

Peter Eliopoulos had a great patent downloading tool called freePat a few years ago, based upon the pat2pdf script.  At some point freePat stopped working and Peter stopped blogging.

It turns out that freePat stopped working because the program was checking in with Peter’s website (probably checking to see if an updated version exists).  When Peter’s website went down…freePat broke.

Fellow Canadian patent blogger Sander Gelsing figured this out and registered Peter’s lapsed domain (solely for the purpose of fixing the issue with freePat).  Now, freePat works again.  Thanks Sander!  His blog is Now, Why Didn’t I Think of That?

What’s great about freePat is that it allows you do download PDFs from around the world for free.   Definitely worth checking out.

Request from a reader:

Oxford University Press is expanding its U.S. law publishing program—with a particular focus on IP—and we are looking for qualified authors. In general, we envision a series of titles/monographs that will go into much greater depth than an article/chapter, but with a narrower and more strategic focus than a traditional treatise. If you (or any of your readers that you know of) has an interest in writing, please … feel free to contact our acquisitions editor directly at matt.gallaway@oup.com.
