Law Hack: Male Names vs. Female Names

As attorneys, particularly intellectual property attorneys with international practices, we all often come across unfamiliar first names…wondering if the person we are addressing a letter (or e-mail) to is a man or a woman.  Here’s one way to increase your confidence in knowing the answer to that question:  Google Images.

Type in the person’s first name in the search box and look at the resulting pictures.  Typically, you can figure out the answer.  Sure it won’t work as well on certain names (e.g., Leslie, Pat, Chris, Dana)…but it will usually give you a pretty good idea.
