Patent Lawyers, Engineers, CAD Files and Adobe Acrobat????
May 7, 2007 on 8:28 pm | In Tech Tips, Weblogs |I previously called Adobe Acrobat 8…A Must Have Tool for IP Attorneys. Guess what? Add another reason to that list: viewing CAD files. I completely missed that feature!
Rick over at the Acrobat for Legal Professionals blog has the scoop in his post: “Converting CAD Drawings in Discovery,” including information on:
Converting DWG to PDF without AutoCad Installed
Convert DWG to PDF in Batch
DWG as PDFs: How do I navigate CAD drawing in Acrobat?
Looking at Layers
Rumor has it that Rick will be one of the presenters at the Idaho State Bar’s Annual Meeting. I can’t wait.

One thing to remember about CAD files is that they (of themselves) do not bear legal status. The only legal engineering and architectural documents are printed on paper and signed, sealed, and dated by the engineer or architect. However, if you wish to convert a CAD file (extension .dwg or .dwf) into a PDF, you can also use this free service at Free PDF Converter the steps are fewer and you can send a batch in a zip package. If you wish to subscribe to this service, you get additional benefits like many files converted at once, more pages converted from PDF to Word, etc. Telephone technical support is always free.
