Don’t forget Daylight Savings Time 2007 & Your Electronic Devices
March 6, 2007 on 10:37 am | In Tech Tips, Web/Tech |Quoting Wikipedia:
Starting with 2007, DST will be extended by about four weeks, by starting about three weeks earlier than previously, and ending about one week later than previously. Under the new system, DST starts on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007), and returns to standard time on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007).
Why is this relevant? Many of your electronic devices automatically adjust for DST for you. For instance, your Windows (XP/Vista) computer will give you a pop up window noting that your computer’s clock has been automatically updated. Supposedly, if you have automatic updates enabled on your PC/Mac, the earlier DST date should be automatically taken care of for you. However, other devices may not automatically update for you. For instance, I had to manually install an update for my Palm Treo. You’ll want to remember that some of your electronic devices (and software) may not apply the update ‘automagically’ for you and keep an eye out for that come Monday, searching for/applying patches as necessary.
As to whether any of your legal software will be impacted, probably your best bet is to keep an eye on law blog posts mentioning DST.
