Anyone know of any open IP Manager jobs?
March 31, 2006 on 11:02 am | In IP-Jobs | Comments OffI need a favor from my readers. HELP!
I’ve got a close friend who has Fortune 50 IP management experience (including managing the business side of litigation, generating IP, building IT infrastructure inside legal departments, raising the patent ranking (number of issued patents) of said big company by 15 places, etc.) that is looking for a job. This guy is educated in a very cross-disciplinary set of technical backgrounds. He is not a JD.
Does anyone have ideas on who needs a creative mover and shaker to get a corporation’s IP program going?
Anyone know of open IP manager positions?
Reply to me here if you do: snipper+job@gmail.com
Thanks in advance!

RSS Feeds: Do you have my most current?
March 30, 2006 on 9:27 am | In Weblogs | Comments OffSomeone mentioned to me earlier that my RSS feed was showing my old blog name “”Necessity’s Progeny - Nipper’s Blog” I double checked the feed and determined that the name was right, but he must be using the old feed. I told him I had discussed this issue recently (but he missed it). He said I should resend the information again, so…
If you’ve been reading my blog (The Invent Blog) for a LONG time, you might check to make sure you have my most current RSS feed in your aggregator. It is actually a pretty easy thing to do. Try to subscribe to this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheInventBlog. If that is the feed you have in your aggregator, you’re good to go. If you end up with two Invent Blog feeds…you’ll need to find my original (nip.blogs.com) feed and kill it.
The original feed won’t be around forever (especially if I switch to WordPress sometime)…so please please please doublecheck the above feed. I’d hate to lose any readers in the eventual shuffle.

Parole for blogs in my probation folder
March 28, 2006 on 7:12 pm | In Weblogs | 3 CommentsA while ago I blogged on how I use a "probation folder" in my RSS aggregator to control RSS overload. I still use the system…it works great for me. That post was actually picked up by a number of big name blogs…as well as other legal bloggers.
Well…seeing that I am now up to 150 blogs in my aggregator (probably 30 of which are actually searches for blog post fodder), I’ve decided to sit down and promote some blogs out of the probation folder (which I will list here), demote some to the probation folder and give the death penalty to others. To save the hurt feelings of being demoted…I won’t mention who I cut.
To wit, here are the blogs I’ve found in the past few months that are "keepers":
- Blawgr.com. Collaborative blog. Great idea…slow growth. Will it catch on? Time will tell.
- Shape Blog. Another collaborative blog, this time regarding the intellectual property of the shape of things (3D, fabrication, rapid prototyping, trademarks, design patents, etc.)
- Patent Prospector. Great posts!
- I <3 Tech. Adrianna writing some great posts teaching attorneys how to use their computers.
- InHouseBlog. Blog written by an attorney who isn’t currently an inhouse attorney…but the content is really good.
- Let the Good Times Roll. Great posts. A must read for startups who read blogs.
- PDF for Lawyers. Great resource.
- Tips, Tricks and Techy Tidbits. Very helpful…goes well with Adrianna’s "I Heart Tech" blog.
- The Patent Librarian. WOW. Great research!

Protecting your photos on the Internet
March 27, 2006 on 6:44 pm | In Copyrights | 1 CommentExposure blog on “How Much Can You Protect Your Photographs on the Internet?”
Oddly, filing a copyright application was not mentioned as one of the points.
And why might you want to file a copyright application??? Cutting through the legalese, legal remedies if you don’t file a copyright application before infringement/within 90 days of “publication”: their profit OR your losses (good luck computing that) AND a court order telling them to not do it again. No statutory damages, no attorneys fees, no court costs…ouch. Thus, unless some mega-corporation infringes your copyright it is unlikely you’d ever have damages making it worth your time to hire an attorney and sue.
Thus, if you can afford to do so, it may make sense to timely file copyright applications covering your photographs (so you can get statutory damages/attorneys fees). Consult with an attorney that practices copyright law for more details.
For those of you who want more information (before you consult with an attorney), the Copyright Office has a page…

For some little while now esp@cenet (http://ep.espacenet.com/) has allowed downloading of full patent copies. When you have found the patent you want, click on the ‘original document’ tab, and you get an option ’save full document’ in red.

USPTO’s new electronic filing system is Mac friendly (unlike previous versions)
March 22, 2006 on 4:31 pm | In Articles, USPTO | Comments OffOne thing I didn’t mention regarding the new EFS-Web system…it is Mac friendly. I’ve been told that Apple worked with the USPTO to make sure it happened. That is great news for Mac wielding patent attorneys/agents everywhere. One cool feature of Mac’s OS-X is that “print to PDF” is built into the operating system…no need to install any additional software and/or purchase Acrobat.
