Complaints filed against Invention Promotion Companies
September 14, 2005 on 4:17 pm | In Independent Inventors |It’s been a while since I’ve posted on complaints filed against invention promoters/promotion companies at the USPTO. I believe THIS was my last post.
The USPTO maintains a list of the complaints that inventors have filed with them against invention promotion companies. Scanning through the list, I see the following as having published complaints thusfar in 2005: Davison & Associates Inc. (four), International Patent Consultants (one), Invent-Tech (five), IP&R (one), New Product Consulting Corp. (one), Patent Trademark Institute of America (four), and Synergy Consultants (one). Many of these complaints are followed by the company’s response to the allegations. I thought that Ron Riley had a resource page with additional "unpublished" complaints (but I can’t find it)…check the comments to this post for that link.
For more information, you might also see my post entitled Independent Inventors and Invention Promotion Companies which includes links to various resources useful to independent inventors in determining who to do business with.

Recently petitioned for and issued (to Ron) under the Freedom of Info Act by the PTO uncovered the following promoter names:

Hello Jo!
Not to worry we can help solve most of your issues.
1. You should read the ongoing chat about Inventor-Link.com and more importantly, (very importantly) kindly write your story including mentioning Nancy again so those on that blog can read it. Go to
http://inventblog.com/2007/07/who-is-inventor-link.com.html
2. I’ve recently submitted my idea to inventorlink and i had a phone call of nancy telling me how excited she was of my idea.
* Naturally! When you tell her you have no money let’s see “how exicited” she really is!!!! LOL !!!!! These fools just never give up.
3. She said i had to wait 2 weeks for them to do the `research` which would cost me £1000 but they would do it for free.
* The same “free” search talked about in the above blog you need to read. It’s called their “Smart Start Evaluation” programme. All arrows in nineteen (19) invention “evaluation” categories line-up to a single multiple choice answer indicating (miraculously) “you have a winner!” Then you get sent a Paypal® link to pay between £4,000- £10,000 for a “Market Strategy Plan.” (Play the game and let’s see if you get the same Plan all inventors have received thus far). Do NOT tell them you have no money at this point. Also, keep us posted on who the call comes from: Nancy Ford, Frank Good or Jerry Jerome (post your remarks to http://inventblog.com/2007/07/who-is-inventor-link.com.html ).
4. I have spoke to her and she said it went really well and she is going to send me a proposal.
* The “usual” they tell everyone.
5. I just asked how much is it going to cost me and she said she couldnt answer me right at this stage.
* In other words, you’ve not been “primed” yet. You have to wait to be greased-up. Step One is getting results from their free “Smart Start Evaluation” programme. When you’re jumping for joy, primed, and readied then a long hook will reel you in and over to a Paypal® payment account.
6. Im just gutted iv given them my idea.
* Don’t worry about it. It’s not your “idea” they are interested in.
7. im not going to fall for any of it i want to try and find out how i can get help with this without it costing me thousands of pounds, and im also worried that they have my idea now.
*Your idea will land up in the rubbish bin eventually (”dead files”). They’ll probably call you in a few months to try to get you re-ignited (if/when their phones slow down).
8. please can you help?many thanks jo manchester
* I’ll help you Jo if you’ll help us by going to the above “inventblog” link to post basically the same message so all inventors who’ve been through almost the same sequence as you, can read what you have to say.
BELOW IS WHAT YOU DO:
A. Manchester/Lancs: give John Derrig a call at 0181-740-1555 or Paul White at
01254 692692 or Mark Grogan (e-mail): markgrogan@fsmail.net They run the Manchester inventors club: http://www.ideasnorthwest.co.uk
B. London’s “Idea21″ meets in your area monthly: http://www.ideas21.co.uk (They’re having website problems so give them a call to find out when/where their next meeting is).
C. The University of Wolverhampton has a free programme for inventors. It’s down south but if you have time them out: http://www.wlv.ac.uk/default.aspx?page=7410
Take it easy and don’t worry!
Go to: http://inventblog.com/2007/07/who-is-inventor-link.com.html
Post your question again or a version of it so inventors subscribed to it can read it. Much appreciated!!!
Cheers and Chin Up!

Jo,
I’m not sure why the Invent blog link does not print as I typed it (leave some characters out)
so if it’s still not printing the whole link (below) go to Google.com then enter the words Inventor-Link.com and up will surface the main blog all the other inventors have posted their concerns about:

I love this place! When it comes to “I’ve got your back” and “safety in numbers”, its no more evident than here! I was involved with the EMC scam first hand and with the help of folks like Steve, Penny et.al., I can talk about it without being a penny (Ms. Ballou, excuse the reference) out of pocket.
Just a few “Up For Comment” (UFC’s);
1. InventBay-I recieved the initial promo page. Have yet to follow up. I found it in July ‘07 Inventors Digest (new look is nice).
2. An unsolicited e-mail made it my way from Gregg Romero and his InventTube. Another “round table” deal with a few unknown “corners”.
3. I have started talks w/ InventionHome. They sound upright. I like the endorsment’s (BBB, IHA,
UIA) along with their price structure, claims and client list. So far so good. Note-One of my investor’s got all hot and bothered w/ the Davidson Group. I let him go until he thought better of it.
Thats it for now. Again, thanks to all, and to all, “Good Inventing”!

Michael,
I ask you to slow down when it comes to Invention Home……
They offer a lot of this n’ that services but “marketing” is allegedly free which usually means it is paid for as part of all the after documents they issue not unlike any invention company: patent search, patenting, virtual proto, etc etc.
Anyway, it supposedly took 3-months to get them and naturally his invention appeared patentable. After paying to have a patent written he found the exact, and I mean exact product for sale. The patent application was filed quite a long prior to the inventor paying I/Home. Whether or not it surfaced in their search I don’t know.
When it comes to the legal side of their ops, I suggest you work “directly” with a patent attorney and not go through them. If you already have did you get to work directly with a patent attorney and if so would you recommend he/she? Who is the person, anyway?
Oh, they refunded some of his money. He got to be a very “noisy” puppy.
My advice: if they are that hot to trot on what you have, they wouldn’t mind investing their moneys and resources to bring it to market, would they? I mean, since you no doubt have a “winner” they’d be making a fortune out of backend royalties, eh?
Looking to forward to hearing from you. Oh, afterhought, please don’t tell me how nice they are and how well you are being treated…just stick to any facts you can provide.
Thanks!
Penny
