Mac attack

Well…my old IBM ThinkPad was in dire need of replacing, just getting too old. I’ve been toying with getting a Tablet PC, but just couldn’t get past how (1) small the screens are and (2) how clunky the keyboards are. A friend of mine owns the local Mac store (MacLife.com), so I decided to ditch my PC laptop and try a Mac (iBook G4 14″). For me, my laptop usage is really limited to surfing the Internet, e-mail and word processing, all things that don’t have a software purchase hurdle (I can’t imagine ditching my PC desktop and the hundreds of dollars of software thereon). Thus, trying a Mac laptop made sense (it was also cheaper than a Tablet PC).

My first impression is that I like it, but it obviously isn’t a PC. Where’s my @#%^& right mouse button? Why are the maximize/minimize/close buttons on the left side? How do I flip between open windows (I am constantly losing the windows in the back)? Backspace key? Etc. I am sure I’ll get used to it, but it is definately different. Sounds like I better go get a “Dummies” book. If you are interested in hearing more about my Mac laptop adventure…let me know.

  1. Glad to see another mac user. :)
Can’t answer all of your questions but here’s a couple answers.

apple-tab switches between applications, apple-~ (tilde) switches between open windows within the same application.

delete key is backspace, fn-delete is forward delete.

if you are a brave soul, I highly recommend a virtual desktop manager. It allows you to organize your applications into different desktops.

    Enjoy the mac…
