November 6, 2004 on 6:35 pm | In Television |One of the shows I TiVo every week is Good Eats, a cooking show on Food Network. The show is hosted by Alton Brown, who is best described as the Food Network’s "Mr. Wizard," teaching as much about the science of cooking as about recipes/cooking techniques. Alton often creates some of the strangest contraptions for use in his shows, for instance making a ravioli station out of a ironing board, using an old terra cotta pot as a smoker, etc. I often wonder if he does it just to see what percent of his minion of followers will actually try it. His show is definitely worth checking out.

As a big fan of Alton Brown I can affirm that at least a couple of his contraptions work. I’ve used the terra cotta, not as a smoker but as an amazing oven for slow cooking “real” BBQ pork. Yum!
p.s. The link to Alton’s blog above is dead. I’ve seen several references to his blog, but I’ve never been able to find it. I think he may have pulled it.
