Spud Guns

In college, one of my fraternity (PKF) brothers had a “spud gun.” The spud gun was essentially a long PVC tube closed on one end and open on the other. At the closed end was a gas grill ignitor (with button). You’d unscrew the closed end, spray it full of hairspray or other flammable gas, close it, drop a potato in the open end, point upwards and hit the ignitor button. The sound was deafening..sounding like a shotgun. The potato would be launched into orbit, presumably burning up in reentry (then again, maybe they were handing somewhere, blocks away). Of course, knowing that the cops would soon be driving by, we’d head back inside the house and hide.
I recently stumbled on a site showing you how to make a mini-marshmallow gun that is operated much like a blow gun. Lots of fun for the kids (until your wife breaks your neck).
Upon further investigation, the mini-marshmallow gun page was a sub page for a “spud gun how to” site called AdvancedSpuds.com. You’ll have to check out some of the guns they show…they could have been used to take out Iraqi tanks.
