WIPO and ITC Publish Guide on Intellectual Property for Exporters
Exporters around the world can now benefit from a new practical guide on intellectual property for exporters published this month by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the International Trade Centre. “Secrets of Intellectual Property: a Guide for Small and Medium-sized Exporters” provides practical guidance on how to deal with some of the most common intellectual property (IP) issues encountered by exporters.

“…Secrets of Intellectual Property: a Guide for Small and Medium-sized Exporters” is currently available in English and may be ordered online from WIPO’s website at www.wipo.int/ebookshop/ or from ITC’s website at www.intracen.org/eshop. Additional language versions will be available in the near future.

Here’s a direct link to the order form. Current price is 40 francs (roughly $30 US). The description on said form:

Guide in the form of questions and answers dealing with intellectual property (IP) issues, aimed at small and medium-sized exporters and trade support institutions. It explains basic concepts and principles regarding IP rights; covers questions relevant to ownership of rights by employees, contracting, licensing and technology transfer; highlights the importance of IP issues when drawing business, marketing and export plans and strategies; deals with IP protection abroad; looks at the link beween IP and quality regulations, standards, packaging, labelling and electronic commerce; considers how to conduct a valuation of IP rights and how to deal with IP disputes.

Similar information can be found via the U.S. Government’s Export.gov website.
