Software recommendation

Per this weblog post on Outlook add-ins, I installed a plug-in for MS Outlook called LOOKOUT. It is a free (for now) plug-in that indexes your Outlook email messages (and attachments/contacts/calendar/filesystem). It sounded interesting, so I thought I’d give it a try. I installed it, it indexed my messages, and gave me a pop-up box asking for my first search. I typed in “Buzz” (a search I did the other day..Buzz Bruggeman of ActiveWords) and in about 0.5 seconds it gave me a list of 254 messages between Buzz and I or mentioning Buzz.

To quote Peter Boyle’s character on Everybody Loves Raymond, “HOLY CRAP!!!!”

That was amazing. I ran a MS Oulook search for “Buzz” just in the deleted items folder and it took 12 seconds. Hmmm….0.5 seconds vs. 12 seconds. Consider me sold. Of course, it is currently free. Wow!!!

By the way, of the plugins mentioned in the post: I swear by ActiveWords, NewsGator, Anagram. Try them all, you won’t be disappointed.

Note: ActiveWords is not an Outlook plug-in…it is more like a Windows plug-in….it works with everything on your computer. Anagram also works with Outlook Express.

LOL…I bumped into a post by Buzz about how he likes LOOKOUT too.

Completely irrelevant, I would just like to say that rather than a recommendation, I will talk about what not to use. MS Exchange Sucks, don’t ever use it. Any alternative will be better, whether it be Lotus Notes, OfficePax, Act, etc. Just NOT exchange
