Multi-Tech appealed both cases (lower court found no infringement in either case). Federal Circuit considered both appeals together. Court held that the district court properly construed the asserted claims to be limited to communications over a telephone line and to exclude communications over a packet-switched network such as the Internet. Affirmed.
