IPO - Emergency Alerts
February 9, 2004 on 10:51 am | In USPTO |Some “Emergency Alerts” via the Intellectual Property Owner’s Association’s site:
“EMERGENCY ALERT TO CONTACT CONGRESS ON USPTO FUNDING BILL BY TOMORROW!! — H.R.1561, the bill to increase USPTO fees 15 to 25 percent and end diversion of fees to other government programs, is scheduled to be taken up on Wednesday for a vote that may be strongly contested by members of the House Appropriations Committee. While discussions with appropriators are continuing, no agreement has been reached….All IPO members are urged to contact their U.S. Representatives today or tomorrow to ask them to vote in favor of H.R.1561, which includes section 5 that eliminates fee diversion. CALL THE CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR AT 202/225-3121. For companies, mobilization of the government affairs staff is absolutely critical. Enlist colleagues and family. Every voter can have an effect…. — Basic information on H.R.1561 can be found in the IPO “Roll Call†ad on the IPO home page (www.ipo.org), and additional talking points will be posted today. At this late stage, however, it is more important to communicate that your Representative should vote for the bill than to communicate detailed reasons.”
